School Notes:

  • SFT is an accredited film acting school with a primary focus on film and television performance. In addition to our full time Two-Year Professional Training Program for Film and Television Performance, we offer a wealth of individual classes in the Part Time Division.
  • SFT was founded in 1980 as one answer to the increasing need for better trained performers for television commercials. Founder Joan See introduced the idea of Actors in Advertising, and thus began the development of a structured approach to auditioning for commercials involving acting techniques and skills that revolutionized the industry. No longer were actors in commercials looked down upon as glorified models. Now real acting was taking place, real listening.
  • The Summer Acting Intensives allow students to earn up to ten college credits while learning cutting edge on-camera performance techniques. Far more than any other acting summer program in the country, the School for Film & Television offers young talent a challenging opportunity to explore acting techniques and camera performance from a dedicated, professional faculty of working actors and directors. Two levels are offered.
  • The Technique Level lets the beginning performer explore the physical, emotional and vocal life necessary for energized, focused, creative camera performing. The Performance Level gives the more experienced actor a vigorous workout as they make the transition from stage to screen. The curriculum emphasizes on-camera technique in both single camera and multi-camera performance
  • Both levels will participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities that only New York can offer. In addition to a double-decker bus tour of the city and a graduation cruise around the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan, there will also be a guest lecture series exploring the realities of the business of acting.
