School Notes:

  • At the University of Pennsylvania, you'll find a historic, Ivy League school with highly selective admissions and a history of innovation in interdisciplinary education and scholarship. You'll also find a picturesque campus amidst a dynamic city and a world-class research institution.
  • The program consists of studios in six areas of concentration: drawing and painting, digital video, animation, photography, architecture and ceramics. Students study with the Penn's nationally-ranked fine arts faculty who personalize their curricula to support students' artistic experience and abilities. The visual arts students attend classes in Charles Addams Hall. This state-of-the-art building features high-tech digital and electronic imaging facilities, professionally equipped photography and ceramics laboratories and bright, spacious drawing and painting studios.
  • Participants choose one area of concentration. Instruction by Penn faculty is technical and conceptual. Studios take place Mondays through Fridays. In addition to class offerings, Penn Summer Art Studios presents a number of events to enhance the university experience. Penn's visiting artist lecture series will acquaint students with the university's visual arts faculty as they discuss their work and experiences as artists. During field trips to the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, students have the chance to experience Philadelphia's world-renowned cultural institutions
  • The Penn Summer Art Studios is a rigorous and intense studio experience. Work outside of the studios may include library research and preliminary studies. All students will be expected to participate in critique. At the beginning of the Program students will receive an orientation to the Fine Arts facility and the available resources. Upon completion of the program, each Art student receives a written evaluation prepared by his or her instructor.
