School Notes:

  • For more than twenty consecutive years, Oak Ridge Military Academy has earned the prestigious “honor unit with distinction” rating from the Cadet Command - a designation awarded to the top twenty percent of schools offering the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program worldwide. Although the JROTC program is not officially offered during our summer sessions, campers can still benefit from leadership subjects taught by our military instructors. The goal of the Academy is not to prepare campers for the military, but rather to teach young men and women the principles of leadership in order to prepare them for life.
  • When planning summer program activities, we have tried to incorporate something for every skill level. Our goal is to allow campers to fully uncover hidden talents and interests and some students need a push to do so. However, we will never force a camper to do anything beyond his or her skill level that could be dangerous. Often campers will exceed their own expectations with encouragement from adult staff and peers.
  • Our summer camp has a substantial physical component that is integral to the program. All campers must participate in formations, marching, drills, leadership classes, and physical training. Children with problems such as asthma or allergies will generally do well in our program. Care is taken to monitor activity levels and provide medication or a rest break, if necessary. However, children with moderate to severe mental or physical disabilities will not be permitted to participate in this program. It is of great importance that each child experience success during this camp.
