School Notes:

  • In 1913, Charlotte Perry and Portia Mansfield fulfilled their dreams of creating a theatre and dance camp in the mountains. Now, over ninety years later, Perry-Mansfield is recognized as the oldest continuously operating performing arts school and camp in the nation. Today, students from all over the world take classes from a select group of accomplished and internationally renowned faculty. The tradition of Perry-Mansfield remains unsurpassed as the camp continues to prepare emerging young artists for the stage. Recent alumni are performing with Ballet Hispanico, Battleworks Dance Company, Munich Ballet, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Nederlands Dans Theatre, and in film, on Broadway and television.
  • Nestled in the hills of beautiful Strawberry Park, our rustic 76-acre campus provides students a safe, nurturing environment in which to learn. Students spend their day in open-air studios, naturally landscaped with grassy meadows, aspen groves and alpine ponds. Perry-Mansfield is often referred to as magical as music, nature and youth blend together in perfect harmony.
  • There are four dance studios, two theatres, two art studios, rehearsal spaces, two dramatic writing studios, a music composition lab, an infirmary, dining hall, scene shop, cantina, camp store, stables, barn, and riding arenas. All buildings are equipped with fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. Students and staff are informed of fire evacuation plans and a fire drill is conducted at the beginning of each camp session.
  • Discovery Camp serves as an introduction to the performing arts. Children spend their mornings taking classes in theatre, dance, music, creative writing and fine arts. Discovery students have a pre-set curriculum and do not register for classes. Each afternoon, they participate in traditional camp activities such as horseback riding, hiking and local field trips. On Saturday, at the end of each session, campers present a final showcase to which all parents are invited.
  • The Junior & Intermediate program encourages students to explore their talents in the performing arts. All students are cast in a theatrical presentation OR a dance production. High School & College is an intensive program designed for the serious student interested in pursuing a career in the arts. Class placements and production casting for theatre, dance and musical productions are held within the first few days of camp. Residential students take a minimum of four classes daily and participate in evening rehearsals six days a week. Saturday is the only full day off.
