School Notes:

  • In 1954, Edna Y. Schwartz created a supportive and educational fine and performing arts summer program for women at Belvoir Terrace. Belvoir continues to be a family-operated business, now with Edna’s daughter and grand-daughter as directors. At Belvoir, emphasis is placed on individual development, program excellence, and camper friendships. The opportunity for an individual program in art, dance, music, theater, and sports is exciting and fun for motivated young women.
  • Belvoir offers the young artist an opportunity for total immersion in studio work. Drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography, video, and fashion are all offered in small classes organized by age and skill. Fifteen professional staff teach the girls in fully equipped studios. Students enjoy working with charcoal, oil paints, canvas, silver, welding materials, clay, stone, and more.
  • The professional artist teachers, teaching classes of six to eight motivated young women, make Belvoir’s art program outstanding. Whether the camper is developing her portfolio for art school or exploring a new interest, the Belvoir art program works for her.
  • Belvoir offers professional instruction in classical ballet, pointe, modern, tap, and jazz. Dance classes are held in four fully equipped studios. Ballet and modern classes have live accompaniment.
  • Music is everywhere at Belvoir. Nestled in the woods, 22 private studios offer facilities for private instruction in voice and all instruments. Classes in chorus, opera, chamber music and orchestra compliment private lessons.
