School Notes:

  • Buck's Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp remains as much a maverick among summer camps as it was back in 1942 when a small group of campers gathered for its first summer. Buck's Rock is an educational institution that has never lost faith in the innate capacity of young people to structure their time intelligently and to use freedom courageously and productively.
  • To create, strive and pursue the deep pleasures of achievement. This is the challenge that Buck's Rock makes to young people. We believe that to act and work creatively, young people should choose their activities and be allowed the time they need. That is why Buck's Rock, from its inception, has provided young people with a freedom that is rarely present in their everyday lives: the freedom of choice and the facilities and guidance to exercise their interests.
  • Given such freedom and opportunity, young people often commit themselves wholeheartedly to their plans. Through their efforts, trials, errors, and accomplishments, they gain self-confidence and develop a sense of the direction they want their lives and life-interests to take. Many talented children attend Buck's Rock, but talent is not the prerequisite, curiosity and open-mindedness are! At Buck's Rock many teens nurture the talents and interests they have and explore and discover new ones, working toward becoming more of what they are capable of being.
  • Buck's Rock provides teenagers with a vast array of studios, equipment and materials. Complementing our facilities is a staff of experienced and talented artists, teachers, and craftspeople selected with care based upon their proven abilities in working harmoniously with children. Since we, at Buck’s Rock, believe that young people benefit from adult guidance to best use their freedoms and make good choices, we offer an impressive camper/staff ratio of two to one.
  • Our workshops and studios are spacious and professionally equipped. Our Summer Theater compares favorably in size and equipment with professional theaters. Our Music Shed and Dance Studio hold concerts for our audiences of campers, counselors and visitors. Our Actor's Studio holds theater workshops and presents fully mounted productions. Our large tent pavilion provides ample room for fencing, martial arts, and a variety of other activities. In addition, horseback riding, an animal farm, sports facilities and our Olympic-sized pool complete the program.
